The Fashions on the Field event is the most highly anticipated feature of both our Race Meetings…

With Judging Categories such as:

Contemporary Lady of the Track
Classic Lady of the Track
Best Dressed Man of the Track
Millinery
Living the Hinchinbrook Way (4850)
Spotter’s Choice

And added Categories for the Family Race Day are:

Best Dressed Junior Boy/Girl (0-11 years)
Best Dressed Boy/Girl (12-17 years)

The prizes are exceptional each year, and are sourced from donations and sponsorship from local and surrounding businesses.

Judging for the Fashions events are left to the experts with whom have an affiliation within the Fashion Industry. With judging on the day following a certain criteria, that ensures a fair and distinctive winner for each category.

Each Race Day the Fashions on the Field event is judged during the times between each Horse Race, allowing spectators the chance to watch the proceedings – Times are published in Race Day Booklets available at each event.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Style and originality touching on current trends and sophistication
Suitability for the climate and environment
Suitability for individual shape and personality
Appropriateness of out suitable for a “Day at the Races”
Must have a “head to toe look

FEMALE CONTEMPORARY:

Aged 18 years and over
Style and originality interpreting current trends
Closed/open toe and/or strappy heels are to be expected
Attention to detail with accessories including jewellery, gloves – encouraged, but not essential
Headwear/millinery is essential
Grooming and deportment including stage presence, presentable hair and makeup
Strapless/straps, shorter styles and playsuits are acceptable – no visible under garments

Female Classic:

Aged 18 years and over
A classic, timeless style reflecting on current trends
Closed/Open toe and/or strappy heels are to be expected
Attention to detail with accessories including jewellery, gloves-encouraged, but not essential
Headwear/millinery is essential
No visible cleavage, mid-drifts, playsuits or cut outs or visible under garments
Shoulders should be covered, with sleeve lengths being short, quarter or full length – no bare shoulders or straps
Style and Originality
Grooming and deportment including stage presence, presentable hair and makeup

Male:

Aged 18 years and over
Attention to detail with accessories including appropriate race day head wear/hat, lapel flower/pin, cuff-links, handkerchief/pocket square, dress shoes and socks, tie/bow tie, and jacket can be worn initially and then held, no sunglasses
Grooming and deportment
Suit fit and tailoring

Couples:

Aged 18 years and over
All other details as mentioned above
Both couple’s appearance will work in unison (matching not essential) with each other and complement each other

Millinery:

Aged 18 years and over
Wearability
Coordination with outfit
Design and style
Originality

Living the Hinchinbrook Way:

Aged 18 years and over
All other details as mentioned above
Must live within the 4850 postcode
Bonus prize if they’ve purchased any part of their outfit from local businesses in the Hinchinbrook Shire

Any patron who has not nominated themselves for a Fashions on the Field Category
Judges to walk around and choose winner discreetly

Junior Boy, Junior Girl, Girl and Boy:

Junior Boy and Junior Girl aged 0-11 years
Boy and Girl aged 12-17 years
Style and originality
Dressed according to age groups
Accessorising is encouraged according to age groups – Older children to wear appropriate race attire, with jackets, shoes and ties encouraged for boys and shoes, bag and millinery for girls
Appropriate footwear is encouraged, however any type of footwear will be considered appropriate to age groups
Grooming and deportment

OTHER RULES:

The judge’s decision is final
All the prizes that are awarded to the winner must remain the property of the winner
No alterations to outfits between the judging and the winner announcements. Any alterations will result in disqualification
Winners will be notified on the event day, and will be presented their prizes
Contestants agree that their image may be used by the Herbert River Jockey Club and/or Sponsors for future marketing purposes
